A group of 11 Webster Geneva students experienced a week of adventure and enrichment in Morocco, where they toured some of the country's most well-known and culturally important locations. The trip, which was designed to provide students with deep cultural immersion, took students from the busy streets of Marrakech to the serene beauty of the Sahara Desert.
Accompanied by Dounia El Jaouhari, our Student Services Manager, the journey began in the heart of Marrakech, where students strolled through the bustling souks, discovering the colors, scents and sounds of Moroccan life. The group continued on through the stunning Atlas Mountains, reaching the Todra Gorges and then the quaint Nkob village, where the landscape and local culture left a lasting memory.
One of the highlights of the trip was their accommodation in Merzouga and the fabulous Sahara Desert. Students were captivated by camel trekking across golden dunes, an exhilarating 4x4 adventure and traditional meals under starry night skies. They had the unique opportunity to meet and engage with Gnawa musicians and learn about their history.
Cultural exchange was at the center of the experience along the route. Students attended workshops with women's cooperatives in the region, where they learned about Berber carpet craftsmanship and how to make traditional Argan oil. Excursions to UNESCO-recognized Ait Ben Haddou — a location popularized by movies like The Odyssey— and the world-renowned Atlas Studios also deepened their understanding of Moroccan heritage.
The trip was designed with the help of a private local guide and a team of handpicked experts who provided students with real insight into every location. The stay at authentic Riads and Kasbahs made it all the more enriching through the warmth of Berber hospitality and Moroccan food.
This unforgettable experience delivered not just breathtaking scenery and culture discovery but also heartfelt human connections, with students returning home inspired and eager for more such experiences in years to come.
