This year’s graduation ceremony will take place at the InterContinental Hotel, followed by a Garden Party at Webster Geneva Campus.

Only guests with pre-reserved bracelets can access the ceremony and the Garden Party.

Registered guests may collect their bracelets (reserved under the graduating student's name) at the Guest Registration desk in the hotel lobby at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 11. 

Parking at the InterContinental Hotel has limited space available, and requires payment on arrival. We suggest arriving at the venue by taxi or Uber for convenience.

Graduation Reception — Garden Party, 5–8 p.m.

(for graduating students and pre-registered guests only)

Graduates and guests mingle at garden party at tables and under event tents.


Graduating students and eligible returning Alumni are invited to a two-hour Garden Party at Webster Geneva Campus after the ceremony. A complimentary shuttle service will be provided for all registered guests, starting at 4:45 p.m. from the Intercontinental Hotel to Webster Geneva Campus (one-way trip only). Bracelets for the Garden Party will be provided at the Guest Registration desk in the hotel lobby, prior to the Commencement ceremony.

This year’s theme for the Garden Party is “Roadmap to Success,” featuring a live band, finger food buffet, service bar, photobooth and exciting interactions with our magician. There will be a few other fun surprises waiting. Bring your cap to the Garden Party — a surprise guest might need it!

Commencement Regalia

The graduation package includes traditional regalia (caps and gowns) for CHF 200. The regalia will be provided on the day of the ceremony during student checkin, at 1:30 p.m.

After the Commencement ceremony, the caps and gowns are kept by each graduate student.

  • Graduation gowns:
    • Gowns for undergraduate and graduate students differ.
    • Bachelor's degree gowns include a colored stole (see gown in left side of photo), while master's degree gowns feature a colored hood that drapes over the shoulders (see gown in right side of photo).
    • The colors correspond to the academic field of your degree.

  • Graduation caps:
    • The mortarboard caps are new each year and are meant for one-time use.
    • These caps are elastic and designed as "one size fits all," allowing you to keep them along with your tassel after the ceremony.

Commencement Ceremony and Garden Party, Webster Geneva Campus

All graduates must register in advance in order to attend their graduation ceremony. Registration must be completed online by Monday, April 8.


The venue for the Commencement Ceremony is the Intercontinental Hotel, Chemin du Petit Saconnex 7-9, Geneva on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 3 p.m. You should arrive at the hotel no later than 1:30 p.m. to collect your cap and gown, for the photo session and to collect your name card. You are expected to appear in formal attire.

GUESTS BRACELETS (these serve as tickets for the Ceremony and Garden Party)

Registered guests (only) will need to wear a Webster-provided bracelet to enter the Commencement Ceremony hall as well as the Garden party (one unique color), located on Webster Geneva Campus. Guests will be able to collect their bracelets at the Intercontinental Hotel as of 1:30 p.m.

Graduating students (and eligible returning Alumni) are invited to a 2-hour Garden Party at Webster Geneva Campus, following the ceremony (est. from 5 p.m.). Any extra guest (apart from the two guests included in the graduation package) can be added for a contribution of CHF 70 per adult towards the cocktail reception, which also includes a two-hour open wine and soft drinks bar (no charge for children 12 and under).

Additional Bracelets can be purchased online for CHF 70 each at the time confirming your attendance to the Ceremony. All guests’ bracelets will be available for collection onsite, listed under the name of the graduating student, prior to the Commencement Ceremony.

COMMENCEMENT DAY — Schedule begins at the Intercontinental Hotel

  • 2:15 p.m. Line-Up for students, Gallery
  • 2:30 p.m. Guests may enter Hall
  • 2:55 p.m. Procession enters the Hall
  • 3 p.m. Commencement Ceremony starts, Grand Ballroom
  • 4:30 p.m. End of Proceedings
  • 4:35 p.m. Procession exits the Grand Ballroom
  • 4:45 p.m. Students and faculty enter the Hall again for group photograph
  • From 5 p.m. Garden party on Webster Geneva Campus, Intercontinental Hotel

CAPS and GOWNS — Required Attire

You will be required to wear a cap and gown according to your degree. Caps and gowns will be provided as part of the graduation package, directly on the same graduation website.


A formal photograph will be taken of all students before and during the Ceremony after the diploma is given. A photo pack is available for purchase for CHF 50. It includes: your portrait photo (pre-ceremony), ceremony photo (receiving diploma) and the group photo. If you pre-pay for the package, the photos will be sent to you by email in high-quality format after the event. You can pre-pay for your graduation photo pack on the same graduation page.

Informal photographs

Informal photographs will be taken during the Ceremony and Garden party. These will be made available to you free of charge after the event. Please ask your guests to refrain from gathering in the aisles and before the podium to take photographs during the ceremony.

Cocktail Reception (Garden Party, Webster Geneva Campus)

At the end of the Commencement Ceremony (approximately 5:15 p.m.), you and your guests with bracelets will be invited to make their way to the Garden Party, using the shuttle service part of the Graduation package.

1–2:30 p.m. STUDENT Registration, Gowning, Photo session and lineup numbers

Upon arrival you will be directed to the cloakroom to collect your cap and gown. The organizing team will assist with the fitting of the students’ cap and gown. Students will then be directed to the photo session. Graduating students are recommended to bring safety pins to secure their hoods, depending on attire—and hairpins for ladies to secure their cap (mortarboard). Tassels are worn on the right side of the mortarboard for bachelor’s candidates. After receiving the degree it is switched to the left. For master’s candidates, the tassel is worn fully on the left side. Once you’ve completed the photo session, please direct yourself to the Registrar’s desk to collect a card with your name, nationality and lineup number. This card will be handed to the faculty member on the podium who will read your name out. Please keep this card with you at all times. Staff members will be there to brief you on the proceedings. Students remain in the gowning area until the student lineup starts. Students remain in the gowning area until the students’ line up at 2:30 p.m.

1:30–2:30 p.m. GUESTS check-in and bracelet collection

Registered guests are invited to collect their bracelets as of 1:30 p.m. at the Ballroom’s registration desk (Commencement venue).


Staff members will begin to line you up according to your lineup number. Please make sure to respect the order as stated.

2:30–2:45 p.m. HALL OPENS FOR GUESTS

Guests will be able to access the Ballroom hall half an hour prior to the start of the conferring ceremony by showing a bracelet. Guests must be seated by 2:45 p.m. Please ask your guests to refrain from gathering in the aisles and before the podium to take photographs during the ceremony.


Undergraduates will lead the procession, followed by the graduates. Members of faculty will tail the procession. You should remain standing until faculty has assembled on the podium and Dr. Guffey, director, bids all to be seated.


Ceremony and various commencement speeches begin, followed by degree conferrals. Graduates will be guided by seated row, in number order. Each individual student will come to receive their “diploma” from Dr. Guffey and to pose for our photographer. Participants will proceed off the stage and return to their original seats. Any special honors are awarded after degree conferrals (individuals will be called back to the stage).


At the end of the ceremony, graduates will rise and allow faculty to lead the recession first. Graduate students will follow next, followed by the undergraduate students.


Please do not join your family members. You will be asked to enter the Commencement Hall again for the group photograph.

5–7 p.m. Cocktail Reception, Webster Geneva Campus — GARDEN PARTY

Guests will be invited to make their way to the Webster Geneva Campus using the shuttle service located at the hotel entrance. Guests must wear their bracelet at all times.

  • Shuttle service from the Intercontinental Hotel to Geneva Webster Campus (one-way only).

Any extra guest will be charged CHF 70, per person.

Entrance to Commencement and the Garden Party is free for children under the age of 12.

Student Commencement Speakers

Your ceremony will include two student speakers, one undergraduate and one graduate. To represent the Class of 2024, you must apply online with a formal letter of motivation to the Commencement Awards Committee and to submit the main themes, lines and/or highlights of your prospective address.
