Dr. Michel Veuthey, Associate Professor of International Law and International Humanitarian Law at Webster Geneva Campus, participated in the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction as the Head of the Delegation of the Order of Malta. The conference, which took place in Sendai, Japan, on March 14-18 2015, was an important networking opportunity for the university as it will soon be launching an MA in Human Security, the curriculum of which represents a novelty among Swiss universities.
Veuthey, who made a statement in Plenary on March 17, had the occasion to benefit from a series of bilateral contacts, gather information on lessons learned and trends in disaster risk reduction, and, more generally, on the ongoing and forthcoming negotiations on humanitarian issues.
The First UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction met exactly one year after the tsunami and adopted the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and the Sendai Declaration.
