Presentation of Krista Jabs Saral’s UNCC visit
Dr. Dominique Jolly, Chair, Walker School of Business and Technology, organized a presentation by Dr. Krista Saral on the semester she spent teaching at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), regarded as North Carolina’s urban research university. The presentation took place on Thursday, January 18, 2018 in the classroom JURA 25.
Dr. Saral spoke about UNCC’s three-day in-depth orientation, their 360° evaluation system, the transparency of budgets and promotions, the students, and her challenging teaching load which included a PhD course in microeconomic theory. Questions were asked with regard to the evaluation system and Lammert Vrieling recommended Reinventing Organizations: A Guide to Creating Organizations Inspired by the Next Stage in Human Consciousness, by Frédéric Laloux. Other questions related to a comparison of UNCC and Webster Geneva Campus. Béatrice Von Mach explained the challenges which are different for Webster Geneva Campus with regards to permits and internships. Krista mentioned the perspective of the UNCC faculty was not to cater to the students, but to let those who cannot handle the material withdraw from the class in order to keep the quality at a high level.
