Webster Geneva Campus Hosts Session on Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Innovation

Webster Geneva Campus welcomed students for an insightful session on cryptocurrency and blockchain technology on March 3.
The event, organized by Elli Koch, MBA ’22, events and general manager at Storm Partners – Decentral House, featured Axel Sabbag, a strategist specializing in blockchain and innovation.
The session provided a comprehensive introduction to the evolving landscape of cryptocurrency, covering key topics such as AI integration, tokenization and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). Attendees gained insights into major industry players like BlackRock, Visa and PayPal, who are actively shaping the future of digital finance.
A significant highlight of the presentation was a deep dive into blockchain technology, emphasizing its security features, decentralization and use cases beyond financial transactions. Discussions also covered the role of Ethereum in decentralized applications (dApps), the rise of DeFi and NFTs and the growing impact of institutional investments in the crypto space.
Sabbag guided students through blockchain security mechanisms, including cryptographic encryption, immutability and consensus models, such as Proof of Work (PoW) and Proof of Stake (PoS). The session also explored regulatory challenges and global trends, shedding light on how different jurisdictions are responding to the rapid growth of digital assets.
As a key partner in the event, Cardano was highlighted as a third-generation blockchain focusing on scalability, sustainability and innovation. Students were introduced to Project Catalyst, a community-driven initiative that funds blockchain-based innovations.
The session concluded with a discussion on real-world applications of crypto, including financial inclusion, remittances, smart contracts and NFTs. Attendees left with valuable investment insights and resources for further exploration in the field.
