Signature Courses Spotlight: Spring 1 Courses Conclude with Engaging Learning Experiences
March 21, 2025
As the Spring 1 term at Webster Geneva Campus draws to a close, students are wrapping up their Signature Courses — unique, interdisciplinary classes designed to offer hands-on, immersive learning experiences.
Among them is GAME 2200 Narrative Design 1: Geneva Game Jam, a standout course that has provided students with an in-depth exploration of storytelling in game development.
Game Design and Storytelling in Action
In GAME 2200 Narrative Design 1, students have spent the semester diving into the fundamentals of narrative design, learning how to seamlessly integrate story and characters with gameplay mechanics. The course mirrors the creative processes of professional writers in the digital gaming industry, equipping students with the skills to craft compelling game narratives.
Throughout the semester, students have worked on assignments that replicate real-world tasks performed by narrative designers during both pre-production and production phases of game development. From world-building and character creation to scripting interactive dialogues and branching storylines, students have developed the storytelling expertise essential for careers in the gaming industry.
A Hands-On Approach
One of the highlights of the course was the Geneva Game Jam, an intensive, fast-paced event where students collaborated with programmers, artists and sound designers to create prototype games within a set time frame. This experience gave students a unique opportunity to apply their narrative design skills in a dynamic, real-world setting while building valuable teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
“The Game Jam was an incredible experience,” said one student. “Being able to see our stories come to life in an interactive format and working alongside developers and artists really helped bridge the gap between theory and practice.”

Webster’s Signature Courses are designed to go beyond traditional classroom learning, offering students real-world applications of their studies. Whether through experiential projects, interdisciplinary approaches or hands-on collaborations, these courses ensure students graduate with not just knowledge, but also practical skills and industry-ready portfolios.
