Francesco Arese Visconti, PhD, deputy academic director and head of the Media Studies Program at Webster Geneva, delivered a thought-provoking seminar on artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on photography. The event, part of the Geneva Communicators Network’s Lunch Seminar series, took place at the Swiss Press Club in Pregny-Chambésy, Geneva. 

Arese Visconti’s presentation, titled How AI is Influencing Photography: The Future of Image Creation, explored how AI is revolutionizing photography across various stages — from image capture and editing to library curation and even synthetic image generation. He also addressed the ethical implications surrounding authenticity and copyright in the context of these advancements.

The seminar highlighted practical applications of AI in photography, showcasing open-source platforms and tools that are redefining the art of image creation. The event concluded with a standing lunch, offering attendees the opportunity to network with the speaker and fellow professionals. 

Arese Visconti is a faculty member at Webster Geneva with a PhD in Photography. He is an active member of SIYU (photographie professionelle suisse) and SPECTRUM – Photography in Switzerland. His academic interests span photography as a means of communication, with a focus on migration processes in Switzerland and Italy. His forthcoming publication on contemporary Italian migration in Switzerland will be released by Palgrave Macmillan.
